Statistics

The herd is comprised of appoximately 1,250 cattle at two different farms. The size of the milking herd ranges from 600 to 650 cows with an additional 50 to 100 dry cows. The baby calves are fed pasteurised milk from our cows for two months. The young heifers go to Indiana Academy in Cicero, Ind. at 4 months of age and return to Andrews Univesrity to join the milking herd at about 22 months, just before they have their first calf. The herd is made up of black and white and red and white Holsteints with a few Brown Swiss and Jersey crosses.
